On to a more heavyweight side of news from the LBF. Omnibus, the world’s largest specialist publisher of music-related books, added to its already impressive catalogue with the launch of MODS The New Religion. An impressive tome, penned by the wildly enthusiastic and knowledgeable Paul ‘Smiler’ Anderson, it charts the history of the MOD generation with first-hand accounts from the people who were there. I’m hoping to produce a full review of this shortly. My initial impression is that whether you were on the scene or not, this is going to be a classic. More soon.

It’s Murder at Fitzroy House
Following last years’ excellent evening the Golden Age Theater staged another of L Ron Hubbard’s tales at his London home. Entitled The Blow Torch Murder the gruesome but cleverly devised murder is not what it seems to Police Detective Ham Logan. Staged like a radio play with actors standing in front of microphones with narrator and sound effects ‘off’, the event proved to be every bit as enthralling as a typical 1930’s pulp fiction story and brilliantly executed.
Hubbard’s achievements are legendary. With 19 New York Times bestsellers and more than 230 million copies of his works in circulation, there’s no shortage of stories for those who want immerse themselves in the golden age.
My thanks to everyone at Fitzroy House, particularly to Sarah for introducing me to more of L Ron Hubbard’s work, and to Liz Ostermann, who had the job of looking after me again this year.
